Carmel Convent Hr. Sec School celebrated International Workers’ Day on 1st May, 2019 to express gratitude and acknowledge the painstaking efforts of the support staff. A special programme on the theme “Shramik Ko Mile Samaan Adhikaar, Saare Milkar Karo Vichaar” was conducted by the students of class IX tothank them for their selfless services towards the institution. Mr. Sanjay Bhat, Labour Officer, Jammu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the day. The support staff was welcomed by the whole school in the most special manner by presenting them with flowers. The program began by invoking the blessings of the Almighty and lighting of lamp by the Chief Guest, Principal Sr. Maria Swati A.C and the support staff.
The Carmelites came together to honour the spirit of May Day through various song and dance performances that added to the joie de vivre and exuberance of the day. A skit on the theme “karam hi pooja hai”, depicting the role and importance of labourers was enacted beautifully by the students. Many games like Salad Making, Safety pin string, rolling bangles etc. were organised and the winners received special gifts as well. On this special occasion, 16 position holders of Class VIII MSE JKBOSE were felicitated by the Chief Guest and the Principal. They received trophies and certificates for their marvellous performance in Board results.
The Chief Guest in his speech, appreciated the efforts of the school on Labours' Day and threw light on the origin, history and importance of this day.He conscientised the students about the evil of child labour prevailing in our society and urged them to raise voice against the same. The program concluded by the motivational words of Principal Sr. Swati Maria A.C. who referred to the support staff as the backbone of Carmel and thanked them for being the strong pillars of the institution.
