Carmel Convent Hr. Sec School celebrated World Red Cross Day on the theme “What do you love about Red Cross” with full enthusiasm and zeal to mark the birth anniversary of Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross. The Chief Guest of the day was Mr. Neeraj Anand, Executive Member, Indian Red Cross, Jammu. The day’s proceedings began with the invocation of the Almighty through a prayer service by the members of Red Cross Club followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. The students were taught about the importance of understanding human sufferings and humanitarian activities through a skit on “Importance of Blood Donation”. The speeches by Ms. Muskaan and Ms. Bhavika of IX standard highlighted the aim, mission and seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross Society. The beautiful song and dance performances apt on the theme of the day won every heart present. The objective behind celebrating this event was to bring awareness amongst the students about the need of protecting human lives against natural disasters. Students were fascinated to know the main functions of the Red Cross that fall under categories- blood collection, disaster relief, aids to soldiers and victims of war and community education.
In his address, the chief guest threw light on the importance of the day. He congratulated the students for putting up an informative programme and briefed them about the Principles of the Society and its prominent role in our State J&K. The school Principal Sr. Maria Swati A.C thanked the Chief Guest for his presence and emphasised upon the students to follow at least 2 out of 7 fundamental principles of Red Cross Society in their lives. The programme concluded with the pledge by the Carmelites to be readily available against any calamity whenever and wherever need be. Later on, the students actively participated in the event organised by the Red Cross Society held at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu in presence of officials from different sectors of J&K Govt.
